The flight controls lit up as the runabout lifted off the flight deck and out the runabout bay. The transition into open space with the planet below was breath taking. Random flashes of light dotted the upper atmosphere and reminded Matrix to raise the decent shields. By now Paul had an unwanted, half-empty glass of some variety of synthehol wine in his hand. Sanok saw that Doctor Scudder was standing nearby, so he ushered the man away from the Yorans. "Did you discover anything that will explain this?" Sanok asked. Paul was relieved to escape the crowd. "Captain," he started, in a hushed tone, "I believe you'll observe a coherence in the set of behaviors displayed by our guests. Symptoms, I believe, which unfortunately only raise more questions. . . ." Paul paused, pressed his lips together, as if his mouth were dry. He saw a pitcher and glasses of ice-water on the table, and he exchanged one for his glass of wine. "Excuse me, Captain." Paul took a sip. With an uncomfortable burst Paul forced the water out. His face flushed with embarrassment, shock — "Hot!" he blurted, his free hand going reflexively to his chin, water dripping down the front of his uniform and the Captain's. (reply Sanok) ~I just spit on the Captain.~ His head spun. Paul heard a Yoran laugh bawdily, felt all eyes upon him. He lifted the glass to his face. Cubes of ice bobbed calmly on the water's surface. "What—" Paul yelped, seemed to throw the glass from his hand. It cracked on the floor. Where Paul had held it in his hand a red welt had formed. (reply Sanok iyw) Paul's brow furrowed, his eyes clenched. "The headaches— But— Sutton gave me. It couldn't have worn off—" Paul's head swam, his skin burned everywhere. "I need to get out of these clothes!" he shouted. He swayed and almost lost his footing. His breathing had become heavy and labored. He felt alone in the room. (reply Sanok iyw) ~Concentrate on your thoughts, Paul. Not your sensations.~ He repeated this, in his mind, over and over, literally trying to regain his senses. He saw light with his eyes closed, gray shadows when he opened them. Cold was hot. His skin was burning off. He squinted as if trying to find something, trying to see. The door, he thought he saw the door. Or did he only remember where it was? ~I need to get out,~ he tried to say, but could only think it. ~Security is in the hall. It has to be over there. It has to be. . . .~ He stumbled blindly across the room, fought with a chair that almost tripped him but he won and threw it violently out of his way. He practically dived out rough the conference room doors. He hit the floor, chin first, as the doors slid cleanly shut again. Sanok attributed this to the young doctor being nervous over having to give such an important report to his captain. "Excuse me, Captain." Sanok nodded. Scudder took a sip, but immediately spit it out, some of the cold water spraying across Sanok's uniform. "Hot!" Hot? It was ice water. There were still several ice cubes in the glass Scudder clutched in his hand. Scudder was embarrassed, his face flushed. A Yoran laughed. The doctor took another drink, but this time, he cried out and threw the glass. "The headaches..." Scudder's eyes were tightly clenched. "But... Sutton gave me... It couldn't have worn off... I need to get out of these clothes!" "Doctor?" Something more than just being nervous was happening. Sanok looked at the Yorans, but they were either being very silent, or avoiding Sanok's gaze. The sound of Scudder stumbling behind him caused Sanok to turn his attention back to his man. He would deal with the Yorans later. Scudder had made his way to the door and was exiting the conference room. By the time Sanok joined him, one of the security officers Jackson posted in the corridor, was holding Scudder and keeping him from crashing to the floor. "He came flying out and hit the deck pretty hard, sir," said the security officer. "Take him to sickbay, on the double. Have the EMH begin a scan." "Yes, sir." Two security men moved off with Scudder. Sanok looked at the remaining guards. "Go inside and keep a careful eye on the Yorans. Don't let them out of your sight, or out of that room. I don't care how much they complain. I'll be in sickbay." "Yes, sir." Sanok nodded and hurried away. They didn't bring as much military weapon as he would have ordered if he had been CO, but the security teams and precautions taken seemed at least sufficient to avoid a complete failure of the mission. They had enough, he estimated, to repeal the first riot, so with a bit of luck, they would realize how serious the threat would be and send more men before the situation become chaotic. As for the equipment, they managed to put more stuff that the commanding officers had expected. Cardassian were known for being excessively meticulous about inventory and space. He wasn't to betray his people on that aspect. He also had to admit Tesha did an amazing job as well. On the runabout in its way to Yora III, Gan examined the officers with whom he was going on the planet. No one seemed anxious, which was a good thing. He wondered though how many did understood the situation out there. "Everyone spying on you when you eat with eyes ready to jump on you at the first mistake. It will feel like home." Looking at his PADD, he began reading over the notes he's collected on the Yoran health system, and noticed it was going to be hard to access records with the power down. Hopefully the hospital had emergency generators operating or else it would be hell getting everything set up in the dark with a line of people needing medical attention. Thankfully the main thing he needed had it's own power generator and that was the direct link to Starfleet Medical. The link provided a direct line to the top physicians and surgeons in the Federation who could talk field doctors through just about any procedure and monitor the progress of the patient. To make sure, Ed turned to Tesha, sitting next to him "Tesha, when we get to the hospital, the first thing I need you to do is take three other medics to the roof and set up the equipment to link us to Starfleet Medical, ok? (Reply Tesha) "Oh, and don't forget to take a spare power cell for it too just in case." The pilot, a new man that recently transfered aboard the Rose, had his hands full. Tesha was monitoring communications, but she kept glancing at the pilot to make sure he still had things under control. At one point, she could have sworn her antennae were going to fall off from the vibrations. "Tesha, when we get to the hospital, the first thing I need you to do, is take three other medics to the roof and set up the equipment to link us to Starfleet Medical, okay?" It was Dr. Sutton. He must have been trying to take her mind off the situation around them. "Yes, Doctor. I'll get right on it once we land." "Oh, and don't forget to take a spare power cell for it too, just in case," said Sutton. Tesha nodded. "Increasing structural integrity," said the pilot. There was a flash of lightning, followed by a crack of thunder that shook the ship so violently, half the crew was thrown to the floor. Tesha managed to keep her seat, but when she looked around at the others, she saw Dr. Andersen lying on the floor, blood dripping from a cut on her forehead. "Dr. Sutton!" Tesha pointed at the unconscious Andersen. As the runabout continued downward, it eventually made it past the turbulence. Getting the all clear from Jackson that they could land, the pilot set the runabout into a clearing. While Sutton was with Andersen, Tesha found Commander Matrix. As Matrix turned to see several people running in his direction, instinctively he pulled his phaser and was ready to rise it at the possible threat. Relieved he recognized them as Star Fleet personnel. "Commander, sir, on the way down, Dr. Andersen was injured. Dr. Sutton is with her now, though I don't know how bad it is. "Dr. Andersen is still inside," said Tesha, stopping at the entrance to the runabout. She waited until Matrix entered first, then followed him in. There was a flurry of words, but Tesha was more focused on Dr. Sutton's assessment of Dr. Andersen. "The good news is, that her injuries won't prove to be fatal." Tesha breathed a sigh of relief. Her antennae were jittering nervously, but they began to slow down. "Preliminary scans indicate there is some head trauma, resulting in a skull fracture, but it shouldn't impede any brain function. What worries me though, is that she needs to be evacuated back to the Rose immediately. Dr. Scudder is still on board, and will be able to get the initial treatment started and set the fracture. Can we get this immediate area secured, sir?" There was more talking, but Tesha was looking and Dr. Andersen's face. Except for the cut on her forehead, but looked like a person sleeping peacefully. The two had become friends, and Tesha would have hated to lose her. Doc Andersen was okay, for an officer. "Commander Matrix, sir, if I may," said Tesha. "I think we should take Dr. Andersen to the Yoran hospital. From the air, we could see that it had lights, so there's emergency power there. It's closer, we wouldn't need to risk anyone else going through the storm activity in the atmosphere, and the Yoran medical tech would be equal to anything we'd have on the Rose." Tesha knew there would be a lot of people filling the hospital, but being so much closer, it was certainly Doc Andersen's best option. One moment, he was sitting in his seat giving an instruction to Tesha, and the next, he was face down on the floor. As he quickly came to his senses, he was surprised to hear a call from Tesha. "Dr. Sutton!" He turned and followed Tesha's gesture and saw an unconscious body lying on the floor. Instinctively, he quickly moved over to the patient and pulled out his tricorder. It wasn't until he began scanning that he realised who it was. ~Damn it! Of all the things that could go wrong right now.~ Ed thought to himself looking at the wound to Ailyn's head. The scan thankfully showed no life threatening injuries, although there were signs of serious head trauma. He placed a field dressing on the wound to stop the bleeding and began stabilising his supervisor, placing a brace around her neck and starting to gently roll her onto a spine board. Such was his preoccupation, he didn't notice the shuttle land and the First Officer approach. "How badly injured is Dr. Andersen?" You've no doubt been briefed on our situation here. The situation is deteriorating as we speak. Looting is starting to occur. Up until now police activity was early needed" The Yoran paused. Tom sensed a series of conflicting emotions on the older man. Gambril needed food but was too proud to ask. Tom heard a familiar voice shout out for help. "Security Squad Alpha with me The First officer needs our help. Gambril come with us. " Tom ordered. As they doubled timed to Matrix's location, Tom shouted to Steve" Help is on the way". (Reply: Matrix) ( Posted by: Bill W.) ----- (Yora City, LCDR Steven Matrix, FO/CEO, Day 1, 2024) Matrix contemplated the situation briefly as Tesha suggested a course of action. "I agree....the flight back to the ship would be rough and I don't want to risk injuring the doctor further. Let's get this runabout ready. Dr. Sutton...please make the doctor as comfortable as possible. We're leaving for the hospital within 5 minutes. Okay?" asked Matrix. (Reply Sutton, Tesha) "No...We'll take the runabout. I want all the medical supplies with us...hopefully we'll have a warm reception." Continued Matrix. Noticing Commander Jackson just a few meters away he turned to Sutton and Tesha, "Prepare to leave shortly. I want to speak with Commander Jackson." Ordered Matrix as he exited the medical runabout. Walking briskly just a few meters away, Matrix spoke with Tom Jackson. He outlined the situation with the doctor and their intent to take the medical runabout to the hospital with medical supplies onboard. Matrix patted Jackson on the shoulder and smiled then ran back to the runabout and took the pilot seat. Turning to Tesha and Doctor Sutton, "Ready?" asked Matrix. (Reply Sutton, Tesha) Matrix looked out the windows to see that many Yorans were flocking to the shuttle. Jackson and his security forces were keeping them a good distance away from the runabout as it lifted off and quickly disappeared in the dark Yoran sky. She will do fine, so will you. Her chance of survival will be much higher if she doesn't have to look for you. Surely you value her life as much I value my own. We have a task to accomplish. Let's go to the hospital. That's an order." C'Nell nodded and the two moved off, C'Nell sensed he would be in trouble for this violation of protocol but did any scientist get anywhere obeying the rules...well they might have done on Vulcan. But he was not born there... (Reply nobody) (Posted by Nathan) ----- (Yora III, 2O/CSec LCDR Tom Jackson, Day 1, 2026) Tom and the Security squad arrived in short order. "Form in an inverted vee formation and wait for my orders." Jackson added after placing himself inside the formation. This allowed Tom the ability to assess the developing situation from all angles. This was his first test as Security Chiei:f. Tom issued additional orders beginning with "Set phasers on stun. No one fires unless I order it.". Each man nodded in agreement. "OK, move out nice and slow" Tom said. They moved 20 or so meters closer to the crowd and stopped. "Yorans - halt where you are! Proceed no further or we'll act to protect our property and personnel. If that occurs we'll leave and the supplies we brought go as well" Tom yelled. That got the Yorans attention , They grumbled amongst themselves. This pause gave Tom and his crew a respite. Tom looked at his troops. "Hang tough you're doing fine" he said to them. They had learned that Cmdr. Jackson didn't praise lightly. This was a good thing in a bad situation. . .The Yorans spoke up again. A loud man yelled "You may get some of us but we out number you 4 to 1" Tom knew: he had to act fast. His tine was running out. Jackson slid his hand down to his his phaser and aimed it at the the loud man and said care to try me Sir?". The man protested but backed down. The tension level dropped. . "We came here to help you anyway we can. Please allow us an opportunity to work with your leaders" Jackson stated. The crowd dispersed slowly. ."Commander lets get to work shall we ? Tom said to Matrix. (Reply; Matrix) (Posted by: Bill W.) ----- (Yora City, Prefect of Police Gambril, Day 1, 2033) Gambril saw the concern on the Federation officers face as mention was made of the injured officer. A female officer or so he thought::, made the suggestion to move the person to the hospital. Gambrill spoke up " it is one of the few places that still has power follow me and I could show you a short cut to the hospital". (Reply: Any) The Federation people quickly discussed his idea and seemed to agree. Gambril and the one named Jackson began the preparations to move . Gambril left instructions for his deputy to work with the Federation troops. Jackson was doing the same thing with one of his security officers named Stevens. They entered the shuttle and Jackson n had him sit up front and show the way. Gambril was glad the hospital had a large secure landing area on its roof. Tom knew he'd be busy and some of tbe officers needed a little guidance. Tom saw Lt. Nolar approach. He knew the man top notch. engineer. There was work aplenty and Tom reasoned ' might as well get to it' "Mr. Nolar a moment please " Tom said and waived him over. (Reply: Nolar) " I need you to get power up and running. (Reply: Nolar ) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Yora III, aCEO Lieutenant Nolar, Day 1, 2036) Both Nolar and C'Nell arrived at the hospital. They weren't alone. It was quite crowded. Matrix and Jackson were already assessing the situation. While they did, Nolar decided to check what any engineer would [be asked to] check : power. As he walked, he encountered one of those who seemed to be in charge of the hospital. ~ I will have a better chance to know where is the Hospital main power with an administrator rather than a nurse.~ "Excuse me sir. Can you tell me where the hospital main power source is?" (Reply ?) (Posted by Nick) ----- (Yora III, Hospital, aCSO Ensign Thomas C'Nell, Day 1, 2037) C'Nell arrived with Nolar, he learned the food situation was organised with the efficiency that he had expected. He was examined by a Yoran doctor, who discovered that the criminal who had attacked him had apparently managed a light stab, he was bleeding slightly but his green blood flow was soon stemmed with bandages. C'Nell approached Matrix and Jackson. He didn't hear their conversation, he was clutching his side but attempted to hide any show of injury. Such a thing would lead to that most illogical of human traits; irrational care and worry. "Sirs, the food is now being disseminated to the locals and should supply them for a sufficient amount of time that Lieutenant Nolar can restore power and therefore their replicator capabilities. I am therefore awaiting orders" (Reply Matrix and/or Jackson) (posted by Nathan) ----- (Yora City, Hospital, 2O/CSec Lt. Cmdr. Tom Jackson, Day 1, 2038) Tom was about done with his instructions to Nolar. Tom spied C'Nell approaching. Nolar left to tend to his duties. C'Nell neared Tom and reported in. Tom smiled and said "welcome Mr. C'Nell. How was your " little trip' ?" (Reply: C'Nell) Jackson listened to the young man's briefing. "I need you to assist Mr. Nolar with power restoration. He's down in the basement with a Yoran maintenance man. Getting power up is vital. Any questions?" Tom asked. (Reply: C'Nell) "O.k. Mr. C'Nell! Get to work" Tom ordered. (Reply; C'Nell) (Posted by: Bill) ----- (Yora City Hospital, aCSO Ensign Thomas C'Nell, Day 1, 2039) "Welcome Mister C'Nell. How was your "little trip"?" Jackson asked. Thomas wondered if the Lt. Commander was joking; being sarcastic-he probably had the report. "It ended with a timely intervention from my partner, I was attacked by a man seeking food; I do not know why he could possibly need it; I suspect just pure greed." he said with almost a smile. Jackson listened before providing him with orders; "need you to assist Mr. Nolar with power restoration. He's down in the basement with a Yoran maintenance man. Getting power up is vital. Any questions?" the commander questioned him; but C'Nell hated that human convention of "any questions?" surely any logical being would ask a question without being prompted. "No sir." "O.k. Mr. C'Nell! Get to work" Tom ordered. C'Nell walked away-it was time to do something that might benefit the mission. Jackson had listened quietly to his report, and would read a more detailed version at the end of the mission but to give no comment. It surely meant the command staff where watching him. C'Nell was deep in these thoughts when he arrived downstairs. He saw Nolar immediately. "I am here to assist; Engineering was my secondary class in the Academy-I am at your disposal" C'Nell said.
